Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, and James Stewart were all famous actors of the 50's. Television played a major role in the shaping of the American society in the 50's. There were three main factors of the television: creation, major effects, and industry. During the 1950's television was making its way to every household in America.
The first contributions to the television were the cathode rays and the electric telescope. In 1928 Philo Farnsworth made the first working black and white television system .During the 1930's the first broadcasting stations were made. These were NBC, CBS, and ABC. Now there are hundreds of broadcasting stations in america because of advancements in Television.
Television during the 1950's was used for the same reasons as we use them today but had many effects good and bad. It was a pass time or a way of families bonding including communities. Television made the radios and newspapers less popular because people could now watch what they were listening or reading. Pros outnumbered cons but they made an impact on the society.Children could now procrastinate chores and homework because their favorite show was on and they could easily become addicted. Also people became less imaginative because there was a picture right in front of them.
An average of 9 out of 10 households had a TV in it which means that there must be a pretty big industry. Before world war II there was an average of 2 out of 10 households that had a TV. This switch in numbers made the economy rise even more with more jobs.
The TV broadcasting stations now made scheduled programs because of this boost. Industry played a major role of the American economy and society.
