the Major effects of television
The 1950's are known as the "Golden Age" for television. As the advancements of technology increased, television shows were becoming a favorite pass time for families across America. Its invention inspired many new forms of entertainment, varying from cartoons, to soap operas. Now, instead of simply hearing programs over a radio, you could now see what was happening with synchronized sound. New movies and television shows boomed and Hollywood producers leaped at the chance to create the next hit series.
Although this was great for the economy, how did this new medium affect the American public? Many believe that because a television presented a picture for the viewer, they began to lack the imagination and creativity they would be forced to have while listening to a radio. The accessibility of the television also decreased the popularity of print and radio media, and introduced another way that children could use to procrastinate or become addicted to.
Television affected many different things in America, from the economy, to how we pass time with friends and family. Although some may consider television to have had some flaws, others believe that the invention of the television brought the American public much closer to one another and added a sense of uniqueness to our country which makes us proud to live in.
